Endometriosis-Things you must know

Endometriosis is a gynecological condition in which the tissue similar to the one that lines the uterus grows outside the uterus. It occurs when the tissue similar to endometrium grows on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel, and tissue lining the pelvis.

What are the symptoms of endometriosis? Painful mensuration (dysmenorrhea), painful sex (dyspareunia), chronic menstrual cramps, painful bowel movements (dyschezia), heavy menstrual bleeding, bleeding between periods, painful urination, blood in the stools or urine, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, pain in the back during menstruation, infertility, anxiety or depression, nausea, and bloating are some symptoms of endometriosis.

Although the exact causes of endometriosis are not known, expert theories about the causes include retrograde menstruation, embryonic cell transformation, genetic factors, surgical scar, and immune system problems. The risk factors that might increase the chances of developing endometriosis include having low body mass index (BMI), early period (before 12 years of age), menopause at an older age, having heavy periods that last for one than seven days, short menstrual cycles (less than 27 days), having uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, not giving birth, and high estrogen levels in the body.

The major complication that can arise due to endometriosis is infertility. Diagnosis of endometriosis can be difficult as its symptoms are similar to other medical conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBD), ovarian cysts, and pelvic inflammatory disease. However, the following tests the doctor can perform are a detailed examination of family history, physical examination, imaging tests (ultrasound and MRI scan), and laparoscopy.

How is endometriosis treated? The treatment of this condition generally involves medication or surgery. Depending upon the signs, symptoms, and whether the patient wants to become pregnant or not, the doctor will choose the method of treatment.

Zoladex 3.6mg Injection is used to treat endometriosis. It contains the active ingredient Goserelin acetate, which reduces the estrogen hormone in women, thereby slowing the growth of abnormal cells. If you have endometriosis, your doctor might prescribe you Zoladex 3.6mg Injection.
