Anti-rheumatoid drugs and its uses

devendrasingh1

Anti-rheumatic drugs (ARDs) are medications used to treat the symptoms and underlying causes of rheumatic diseases. These diseases can affect the joints, bones, muscles, and other tissues in the body, causing pain, inflammation, and stiffness.

There are several types of anti-rheumatic drugs (ARDs) that are used to treat autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and lupus. These drugs can be broadly categorized into the following types:

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)

NSAIDs are a common type of ARD that are used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. They work by blocking the production of certain enzymes that cause inflammation. Some common examples of NSAIDs include ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen.

Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (DMARDs)

DMARDs are a class of ARDs that can help slow down the progression of rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. They work by suppressing the immune system and reducing inflammation in the joints. Some commonly used DMARDs include methotrexate, sulfasalazine, and hydroxychloroquine. Xeljanz 5mg tablet contains the active substance Tofacitinib. It belongs to the class immunomodulators.

Biologic Response Modifiers (BRMs)

BRMs are a type of ARD that are derived from living organisms, such as bacteria or human cells. They work by blocking specific proteins in the immune system that contribute to inflammation and joint damage. Some examples of BRMs include adalimumab, etanercept, and infliximab.

Janus Kinase Inhibitors (JAK inhibitors)

JAK inhibitors are a newer class of ARDs that work by blocking the activity of certain enzymes that contribute to inflammation and joint damage. They can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Examples of JAK inhibitors include tofacitinib, baricitinib, and upadacitinib.

Corticosteroids

Corticosteroids are a type of ARD that work by suppressing the immune system and reducing inflammation. They can be used to treat a wide range of rheumatic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and vasculitis. However, they can also have serious side effects, such as increased risk of infection, weight gain, and bone loss.

Relieving Pain and Improving Lives: The Power of Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (ARDs)"

In conclusion, there are several different types of anti-rheumatic drugs available to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Each type of ARD works in a different way to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and slow down the progression of the disease. Your doctor can help you determine which type of ARD is right for you based on your specific symptoms and medical history.
